Every product is designed with a focus on safety, durability, and smart functionality, all rooted in Scandinavian design and engineering.
Thule’s mission is to inspire people to live an active life, close to nature, while reducing the hassle of travel and transport. Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a cross-country road trip, or a daily routine, Thule helps people move freely and live fully.
Thule was founded in 1942 by Eric Thulin in Sweden, laying the groundwork for a brand that would become synonymous with outdoor adventure and smart transport solutions. In 1962, Thule introduced its first product for carrying sports gear — a ski rack, followed two years later by the innovative Thule Roof Basket, which featured a flexible fastening system for easier mounting. By 1977, Thule launched its first ski box, the TB-11, with legendary alpine skier Ingemar Stenmark as its brand ambassador. In 1983, Thule expanded into watersports with the introduction of surfboard carriers, joined by world-famous surfer Robby Naish as an ambassador. The brand continued to innovate with the launch of its first towbar-mounted bike carrier in 1992 and the Hull-a-Port Kayak Carrier in 2001. In 2005, Thule began offering bike carriers and awnings for RVs, and in 2010, introduced the Thule Crossover travel collection. Families were further empowered in 2011 with multifunctional child trailers, followed by jogging strollers and child bike seats in 2014. The brand continued expanding into outdoor lifestyle gear with technical backpacks in 2015, and in 2018, brought camping to new heights with the launch of their rooftop tent.
Thule Group is deeply committed to sustainability as a core part of its mission to enable active lives while safeguarding the planet. Their products are designed for durability, repairability, and recyclability, while manufacturing is powered by renewable energy and logistics streamlined to minimize transport emissions. Thule’s ethical sourcing policies extend through audited supplier relationships, support for labor and environmental standards, and active partnerships with sustainability organisations like bluesign®, the UN Global Compact, and the European Outdoor Conservation Association. In recognition of these efforts, Sustainalytics ranked Thule among the world’s top 50 most sustainable companies in 2025.
